Why do you need a International Driver License Permit
This permit will allow you to drive in many countries that recognize the permit, without you needing to apply for a driver license in that’s country. As long as you hold a valid license and have this permit.
Where to get your driver license
You can obtain your international driver license by visiting at a local AAA office.
What you need to bring
- Valid Driver License
- Two Passport Photos (Cheapest places to get passport photo [LINK])
- Cash or Credit card for payment ($20)
How to apply
When you show up to the AAA office, you will inform the front desk, that you would like to apply for the International Driver License Permit. When you fill out the form given to you. You will enter all the information related to your license, upcoming trip, vehicle type (car, motorcycle or heavy vehicle) and region (Americas or Rest of world). After you hand the document back to the front desk person, they will call you over to the agent’s desk who process your application. Once your application is process, they will collect the $20 payment and you’ll recieve your stamped IDP.
Things to note
- AAA offices may have a longer wait for non-members, so it’s best to go early in the morning.
- Member and Non-members pay same price for IDP.
- The start date on your IDP is based on the start date listed on your application
